Byun Hee-bong, the Veteran Korean actor who was best known for his accomplishments for Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho such as Memories of Murder, and Okja has died. The actor was just 81 when he breathed his last. The family of the deceased announced in a statement that the veteran actor died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Byun Hee-Bong was born in 1924 in South Korea. Before moving to the Television World, he started his career on stage. Some of his major small screen credits include The Legendary Doctor – Hur Jun’ (1999), The Joseon Dynasty 500 Years: Seoljungmae (1985), and The First Republic (1981). However, his collaboration with Bong Joon-ho, the director made him recognised. Later, he paved his way for the big screen.

Byun-Hee-Bong also appeared in four movies that Bong Joon-ho, the Academy Award winner directed. The list includes Okja in 2017, Host in 2006, Memories of Murder in 2003, and Barking Dogs Never Bite in 2000. In 2020, Hee-Bong received the South Korean cultural decoration’s Kordecorationnt’s second-highest tier, Eungwan Order of the cultural Merit.
