Civil Rights Day also known as Martin Luther King Jr Day, is observed on the 3rd Monday of January or say 16th of January this year i.e 2023. The day marks a celebration of the civil movement initiated by Martin Luther King Jr. to abolish inequality and racism in the U.S. The decade-long campaign/movement was in regard to the rights of African-Americans and to put an end to the racial discrimination of privileged white people against persons of colour. 

Many years ago, America was the land of Aztecs, Incas and Mayans. Later it was occupied by Europeans who came to America looking for spice but found masses of gold and silver. So, they decided to stay and start the mining business. Over the years, America has built its own kingdom while killing Native Americans in bulk. Soon, the news about better opportunities travelled over the world and people from different countries started to relocate to America for a better life. But those who were coloured were used as slaves and sold to privileged sections of society. Many black Africans were sold as labourers to Europeans. 

Slavery continued for thousands of years and reached its height in the American Civil War. During this time, the condition of Africans was brutal. Many white people used to treat them as inhuman and were later killed. Slavery came to its last stages when the Civil War came to an end. During the ramifications era, the 13th, 15th and 14th Amendments of the Constitution were re-stated. Every slave in the United States became a free citizen and granted all basic human rights through the Constitution. But changing the mindset of white people towards people of colour was a long road ahead.
