COVID-19 Vaccinations For 12-14-year-Olds From March 16; 60 Plus Can Receive Boosters

More than two months after COVID-19 immunization became available in the country for the 15-17-year-old age group, the Centre has announced plans to expand the program to include the 12-14-year-old age group beginning March 16. According to government data, India’s population in this age group is predicted to be 7.11 crore.

The Vaccine Was Created In Consultation

Corbevax, a binding affinity pattern protein sub unit vaccine created in consultation with Baylor College in the United States, would be given to the teenagers by Hyderabad-based Biological E.
The Drug Controller General of India issued emergency use authorization for this vaccine, which is to be given in two doses 28 days apart, in December of last year for use in 12-plus demographic groups.

Approximately 9 crore anti-coronavirus shots have been delivered in the 15-17-year-old age bracket, with over 2 crore jabs given as supplementary doses to qualified participants.

Only Covaxin, Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine, is approved for the 15-17-year-old age cohort, whose population is expected to be 7.4 crores.

Healthcare and customer service representatives, with the exception of individuals over 60 years old with underlying conditions, were eligible for precautionary doses starting January 10, 2022, if they had passed 9 months since their previous dose.

What The Health Ministry Said

The choice was reached after “due deliberations with scientific bodies,” according to the health ministry when they were asked about this ongoing topic.

As a result, babies born between 2008 and 2010 will now be qualified for COVID-19 vaccines.
