Ekadashi fasting holds an important place in Hinduism. Every year there are 24 Ekadashis. When Adhikmas or Malmas comes, their number increases to 26. Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month is called Devshayani Ekadashi. This year many auspicious coincidences are being made on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi. This time Devshayani Ekadashi will be celebrated on Sunday, July 10, 2022. Worship is done on this day according to law. The day of Devshayani Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Then Lord Vishnu used to stay awake for many years for the destruction of the Asuras and to hear the prayers of the devotees. Or sometimes they used to fall into a deep sleep for millions of years. Mata Lakshmi was surprised by this and suggested to the Lord not to do this so that she would also get a chance to rest. Mata Lakshmi said that they should make rules for sleeping every year. God accepted this suggestion and fixed the rule of sleeping for four months every year. The date on which the Lord had gone to sleep was the Ekadashi date of the month of Ashadh. After that day it is considered Devshayani Ekadashi.

Devshayani Ekadashi has special significance in Hinduism. Lord Vishnu’s fast is also observed on this day and it is believed that if worship and penance are done on this day according to the law, then one gets freedom from all sins. There is a ban on starting any auspicious work for 4 months from the day of Devshayani Ekadashi. 16 Manglik works like marriage, Upanayana, Mundan, and Griha Pravesh are not done in these four months.
