Gina Carano files a $75K lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm with Elon Musk’s help

Actress and former MMA fighter Gina Carano has filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm, accusing the entities of bullying her for her social media posts.

In 2021, Gina Carano was sacked from a project after her social media post in which she stated that being a Republican was akin to being a Jew during the Holocaust. Incidentally, the lawsuit has the support of Elon Musk, who is not only funding it but has also openly called on his social media platform X for other people to support and join the lawsuit.

The lawsuit by Gina Carano is seeking $75,000 in damages and has also asked the court to direct Lucasfilm to recast her. Gina Carano is a former MMA fighter and portrayed the role of Cara Dune in the first two seasons of the Disney show The Mandalorian. During her stint with the show, she often clashed online with left-wingers. Things started getting nasty after Gina Carano shared a post on Instagram in February 2021 and commented on the prevailing political climate in which Republicans had to endure persecution similar to the Jews during the Holocaust. She was removed from the Disney show The Mandalorian after her post. UTA, the talent agency that represented Ms. Carano for two years, also severed their contract with her. A Lucasfilm spokesperson had said that Ms. Carano’s actions, which amounted to demeaning people based on their cultural and religious leanings, were unacceptable.

The post said that history is often altered and that reaching a stage where the Nazis could round up thousands of Jews starts with a campaign where the Government created animosity between neighbors and made them hate the Jews. This is much akin to someone hating the other just for his political beliefs.

The 59-page civil lawsuit, filed in California federal court on Tuesday, does not name UTA and alleges that the Walt Disney Company was not justified in dropping Ms. Carano from the show because of a social post.

Ms. Carano further said that she had the guts to express her opinion and stood up against an online bully mob that had their own extreme ideology and wanted her to toe their line. The lawsuit also talked about discrimination and how the actress was treated differently compared to her male counterparts who were not penalized for their online media activities.

Ms. Carano added that artists sign contracts, but that does not mean that they have forfeited their rights as free American citizens. Ms. Carano also thanked the multi-billionaire entrepreneur, Elon Musk, for his support, who in his X social media account asked if anyone will support and join the lawsuit against Disney.

In fact, Mr. Musk has said that he will financially support anyone who is discriminated against for their posts on X.
