Govardhan Puja is one of the auspicious festivals that Hindus celebrate in India. This day is commemorated a day following the observation of Diwali. On this day, the kid form or the Baal Roop of Lord Shri Krishna is commemorated. Govardhan Puja is also called Annakoot or Annakut which means mountain of food. On this day, devotees offer Chappan Bhog of sweets and vegetarian food as gratitude and worship a hill called Govardhan Parvat.
The term ‘Govardhan’ has been extracted from the hill, Govardhan which is located in Uttar Pradesh, in Gokul. Lord Krishna lifted the mountain single-handedly. The celebration of Govardhan puja is marked as a thanksgiving ceremony, started from Brijbhoomi, and gradually the entire country started celebrating the day a day following the celebration of Diwali. In the Kartik month, on the 1st day of Shukla Paksha Govardhan Puja is commemorated as per the Hindu calendar.

Devotees from all over the country celebrate this auspicious ritual. The celebration of Annakut Puja which is popularly known as Govardhan puja with utmost devotion. Brijbhoomi is the place where Lord Krishna was born in the Dwapara Yuga. Thus, you can find the best form of celebration of the festival in Brijbhoomi. On this day we idols of goddess Radha and Lord Krishna are bathed in milk. Then the idols are dressed in new ornaments and clothes. This ritual is prevalent in the temples of Vrindavan and Mathura.
