Alfredo James “Al” ‘Pacino, turned 82 today! He began his career as a movie star in one of cinema’s most lively periods, the 1970s, and has since positioned himself as a lasting and legendary character in the American film industry. He was born in Manhattan, New York City, on April 25, 1940, to Italian-American parents Rose and Sal Pacino.

When he was young, they separated. His mother relocated them to the South Bronx to live with his grandparents. Pacino frequently found himself mimicking the storylines and voices of protagonists he had seen in films. He found a respite in school plays when he was bored and uninterested, and his enthusiasm soon evolved into a solid career.

Alfredo James’s Career

Pacino finally found breakthrough off-Broadway with Israel Horovitz’s “The Indian Wants the Bronx,” receiving an Obie Award for the 1966-67 season after performing in a succession of minor roles. Following that, “Does the Tiger Wear a Necktie?” won a Tony Award. Following his cinematic appearance in Me, Natalie (1971), he played a drug addict in The Panic in Needle Park (1971), a brutally accurate stage performance that garnered him respect (1969). Michael Corleone’s character in “The Godfather” (1972) was one of the most coveted at the moment, with Robert Redford, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Ryan O’Neal, Robert De Niro, and a slew of other actors expressing interest or being discussed.

Coppola was effective, although Pacino was said to be terrified of being dismissed throughout the arduous filming. The film was a smash hit, and Pacino received his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his work in it. Pacino, however, chose to support what he deemed tough but vital films, such as the true-life crime thriller “Serpico” (1973) and the sad true bank heist picture “Dog Day Afternoon”, rather than taking on lighter movies for the large money he could now command (1975).
