Gautam Buddha’s story begins as Prince Siddharth Buddha in Lumbini, Nepal, around 2500 years ago. It is a belief that when Buddha was born, he took seven steps with a Lotus blooming with his each step.
Thus, his birth anniversary is commemorated as Buddha Purnima.
According to Hindu and Buddhist scriptures, Siddharth meditated in Bodh Gaya, Bihar under a Bodhi tree, achieving enlightenment and salvation, also called Nirvana.
Gautam Buddha finally attained enlightenment after doing meditation for 49 days, disclosing the secret to ending ‘suffering’.
Even though Siddharth Buddha was born into a royal family, being a prince and later a king, he sacrificed his lavish life. He searched for the truth when he was only 30 years old. His search was to find ways to liberate one from the pangs of suffering.
Thus, he became Lord Buddha from Siddharth Buddha. Lord Buddha met his ultimate demise at Kushinagar as Parinirvant, escaping from the life-death cycle.
