Annually, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the Purnima of Chaitra month. Lord Hanuman, also known as Sankatmochan is believed to have been born on this day. Lord Hanuman is considered one of the most influential deities in Kali Yuga, the fourth and worst of the four yugas. This year Lord Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated on Saturday, April 16, 2022. According to legends, Hanuman is the 11th of Lord Shiva and was born to help Lord Vishnu at the time of Rama Avatar. Lord Hanuman helped Lord Rama in Mata Sita’s search, Ravana’s war, and Lanka’s victory. The sole purpose of his birth was Ram Bhakti.

According to the legend, when King Dasharatha, the king of Ayodhya, performed Putreshti Havan, he fed kheer to his three queens as Prasad. A part of that kheer flew away with a crow and reached the place where Maa Anjani was absorbed in penance of Lord Shiva. When she consumed the kheer, Lord Hanuman was born to her. Being Anjana and Kesari’s son Hanuman is also called Anjaneya and Kesarinandan.
