New Year i.e. 2024 is just around the corner. It is based on the Gregorian calendar the most accepted calendar in the world. Observing the New Year is not new, it has been celebrated for centuries. As per ancient texts and records, the celebration of New Year was started 4,000 years ago. In the city of Babylon where Equinox was celebrated as the beginning of the new year. The time when Equinox is the time of the year when the sun crosses the Earth’s equator.

At this time, the duration of nights and days is equal on the earth. Mostly, in Spring time, the equinox is recorded on March 21 while in Autumn it is recorded on 22 September. The traces of the early new year were recorded in the springtime, also called as Vernal Equinox observed on 21 March in the calendar that exists in today’s world. 

During the time of Julius Caesar, he made changes in the calendar and added 90 more days in a year. The move was done to align the Roman calendar with the position and movement of the sun. These new changes made the modern calendar that we follow nowadays. It would be suitable to say that the Julian calendar has more similarities to the modern-day Gregorian calendar.

The festivities of New Year depend on the time zone of every country. The celebration goes till midnight on 31 December and continues to go on 1 January. Many tend to go to parties, and clubbing while some like to stay at home and celebrate it with loved ones.
