According to the Hindu calendar, Ugadi, the festival is celebrated on the initial day of the Chaitra month, which according to the Gregorian calendar usually falls in the months of March or April. Some homeowners even decorate the front of their homes with floral drawings. The holiday is joyfully observed and is a social occasion. In Maharashtra, the day is additionally celebrated as Gudi Padwa. In Karnataka, the celebration is also known as Yugadi.

Significance

This day is regarded as one of the most special occasions of the year because it is thought that Lord Brahma god created the world on this day. In addition, it commemorates Chaitra Navratri, which precedes Ram Navami, the birthday of Lord Rama, which is observed on ninth day or Mahanavami.

On this day, after praying, they eat neem leaves. Even neem leaf paste made from jaggery, tamarind, and coriander seeds is prepared by devotees in some locations.
