Story of Tulsi Marriage
According to mythological belief, a girl was born in the demon clan (Raakshas Kul), named Vrinda. She was immersed in the devotion and worship of Lord Vishnu since childhood. When Vrinda became eligible for marriage, her parents married her to a demon named Jalandhar born of Samudra Manthan. Vrinda’s husband Jalandhar became very powerful due to the service and compassion of Lord Vishnu. All the gods and goddesses were afraid of the terror of Jalandhar.
When Jalandhar go to war, Vrinda used to sit in rituals of worship. Due to Vrinda’s Vishnu devotion and sadhana, no one could defeat Jalandhar in battle. Once Jalandhar attacked the gods, after which all the gods were unable to defeat Jalandhar. Desperate then, all the gods went to the shelter of Lord Vishnu and started thinking about ending the terror of Jalandhar.
Lord Vishnu took the form of Jalandhar from his illusion and with deceit destroyed the husbandry religion of Vrinda. This reduced the power of Jalandhar and he was killed in the war. When Vrinda came to know about the trick of Lord Vishnu, he cursed Lord Vishnu to become a stone. Seeing God as a stone, there was an outcry among all the deities. Then Goddess Lakshmi prayed to Vrinda, then Vrinda withdrew her curse (Shrapp) and burned herself with Jalandhar.
Tulsi plant came out of the Ashes (Rakh) the body of Vrinda
A plant came out of the ashes (Rakh) of Vrinda’s body, which Lord Vishnu named Tulsi, and encapsulated a form (Rup) of himself in the stone, saying that from today I will not accept any Prasad without Tulsi. This stone will be worshiped along with Tulsi in the name of Shaligram. Since then, Tulsi is also married Lord Shaligram in the month of Kartik.
