India vaccination achieves 75 Crore doses milestone, about 43% of the population to get the vaccine by December

India has reached a milestone of vaccination by crossing 75 crores marks of Covid-19 vaccination. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya linked it with the 75th year’s celebration of India’s freedom by calling it Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (The 75th year’s celebration of India’s freedom). 

If vaccination continues at the same rate India may vaccinate 43 per cent of its population by December. India started its vaccination in January this year. To cross 750 million doses from 650 doses it took only 13 days to the country. India delivered 5.3 million doses in the last 24 hours with a shortfall of 6.7 million of the current target.

He congratulated PM Narendra Modi for his ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas mantra in the tweet and further said that the world’s biggest vaccination campaign has been relentlessly creating new dimensions.

India has 45 more days to cross the next 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach the 30 crore mark. The reach of 40 crores from 30 crore doses took 24 days and then 20 more days to cross the 50 crore mark.

WHO’s regional director Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh also congratulated India for its bigger achievement in vaccination within a short period. She said while it took 85 days to administer the first 100 million doses, India reached 750 million doses from 650 million in just 13 days.

Experts have given several warnings of the third wave in India. To control the damage of the third wave or limit the number of cases India needs to fully vaccinate 60 to 70 per cent of the population by year-end. However, as per the current rate of vaccination India can vaccinate only a 43percent of its population by year-end. The current rate has a shortfall of 4.3 million doses.

Currently, 57 crore people have been vaccinated with the first dose and 18 crores with their second. It includes 99% of healthcare workers (HCWs) and frontline workers (FLWs ) who are vaccinated with one shot of the Covid-19 vaccine. Six states and union territories that have reached almost 100 per cent of vaccination are Sikkim, Goa, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Ladakh and Lakshadweep, and Himachal Pradesh.
