International Day of Peace History and Significance

In 1981, UN General Assembly passed a resolution and established the third Tuesday of September as International Day of Peace. In the same year, the day was celebrated for the first time. Actually, from 1981 to 2002, for consecutive 20 years, the day was celebrated every year on the third Tuesday of September. But in 2002, the UN declared 21 September as International Day of Peace.

On this day every year, various programs are organized by the UN to promote peace and end conflicts.

The 2021 theme for the International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”.

Celebration

Every Year, the International Day of Peace is celebrated through education and public awareness on issues related to peace. It is celebrated as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. Individuals also perform activities at local to promote peace, like Minute of silence, Peace education events, Intercultural and interfaith dialogues, Intercultural and interfaith dialogues, Planting peace poles, etc.
