J-K reserves 4% seats in engineering, medical colleges for students from Ladakh – education

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday introduced reservation of Four per cent seats in its engineering and medical colleges for students hailing from the Ladakh Union Territory.

The choice to this impact was taken at a gathering chaired by Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam right here to overview standing with regard to reservation of seats for students belonging to the Union Territory of Ladakh in skilled establishments, for the educational 12 months 2021-21, an official spokesman stated.

He stated the reservation in skilled establishments is ruled in phrases of Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act and Guidelines which have been amended submit reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir. The Act and Guidelines don’t apply to Union Territory of Ladakh.

“Retaining in view the non-availability {of professional} establishments in the Union Territory of Ladakh and proposals of the Advisory Committee constituted by the Authorities of India, a choice was taken earlier to order Four per cent seats in each engineering in addition to medical colleges of Jammu and Kashmir for students from UT of Ladakh.

“Accordingly, 24 seats from engineering colleges and 35 seats from medical colleges might be deducted from complete variety of out there seats and the reservation for the residents of J&Okay might be calculated on remaining seats as per the provisions of JK Reservation Act and Guidelines,” the chief secretary stated.

Subrahmanyam requested the Normal Administration Division to tell the Ladakh Administration accordingly.

Concerning the seats reserved for Ladakh students, the chief secretary directed the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Skilled Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) to take up the matter with Ladakh Administration in phrases of admission coverage and reservation coverage to be adopted for choosing their candidates.
