On November 9, it is National Legal Services Day. To put into practice the Legal Services Authority of India Act, 1987, National Legal Services Day (NLSD) is observed. The day attempts to increase legal literacy while also giving the needy free legal aid and counsel. The major goal of this holiday is to raise knowledge of the legal system, human rights, and legal principles in the nation. This also includes ensuring that everyone receives justice and offering free legal aid as well as guidance to the weaker and poorer sections of society.

On the advice of Article 39A of the Indian Constitution and its Committee, the Central Government passed the Legal Assistance Authorities Act 1987 on October 11, 1987. On November 9th, 1995, this law went into effect, or more accurately, it was put into practice. It was decided to evaluate National Legal Services Day on November 9th each year to commemorate the day the Legal Services Authority Act of 1987 went into effect. The Supreme Court of India formally proclaimed this day as National Legal Services Day in 1995.

Underneath the Legal Assistance Authority Act of 1987, NALSA was established with the goals of organizing Lok Adalats for the peaceful resolution of conflicts and offering free legal services to society’s most vulnerable groups.
