Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated in the Shukla paksha of the month of Chaitra on Thrayodashi and this year it is falling on the 4^th of April even though there is some confusion because this year the Thrayodashi is falling on two days i.e. April 3^rd and April 4^th.

Mahavir Swami is the last of the 24^th Tirthankars and was born in Kundagram in Bihar. He was originally known as Vardhaman and at the age of 30 became disillusioned and left for the jungles to do penance and know about the real meaning of life. He became the enlightened one by the banks of the Rijubaluka River under a sal tree. He then devoted the rest of his life to bringing peace and happiness to society.
