The specialty of Arjun tank

DRDO has greatly enhanced the firepower capacity of the Arjun (MK-1A) tank. The Arjun tank has a new technology transmission system. This makes the Arjun tank easy to find its target. The Arjun tank is capable of moving smoothly by removing mines laid on the battlefield. Arjun tank has special sensors to avoid the chemical attacks. Due to this tank, the nature of the war fought on the ground itself changed. They were first used extensively during the Second World War. India also used tanks with Pakistan in 1965. At that time India had Centurion tanks and Pakistan had Patton tanks. The Fin-Stabilized Discharging Sabot system of the Arjuna Tank identifies and destroys the enemy tank during the fight.

Approved in 2012, first tank to be received in 2021

The purchase of 118 upgraded Arjun tanks was approved in 2012 and in 2014 the Defense Procurement Committee also released Rs 6600 crore for it. But on several sides, including its fire capacity, the army demanded improvement. Meanwhile, in 2015, the army had signed a deal to purchase 464 medium-weight T-90 tanks from Russia for Rs 14000 crore. The Arjun (MK-1A) got the green signal in 2020 after it was upgraded on the basis of army demand.

There are already 124 Arjun tanks in the army

A regiment of 124 Arjun (MK-1A) has already been inducted in the Indian Army fleet in 2004, which is stationed in the Western Desert. But these Arjun tanks are of the old model, in which about 72 types of improvements were required by the Indian Army. After this, DRDO has prepared a new version. The 118 Arjun tanks now being inducted are additional features and have greater firepower than before. Another armored regiment will be formed for these.
