National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM): The Federal Administration introduced the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission in 2020 as a component of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat programme.

The National Bee Board (NBB) is in charge of implementing the plan, which has been authorized for three years, from 2020 to 2023. The initiative aims to further the advancement of professional beekeeping in India to fulfil the Sweet Revolution’s goals. The program is run by the Government of India’s Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. It’s a government-run program. The scheme would complement other beekeeping-related initiatives such as KVIC’s Honey Mission, the departments of rural development, AYUSH and MSME, the Purpose for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), and tribal affairs, commerce and industry, and many others.

The NBHM Scheme’s Goals

  1. Encourage the comprehensive development of the beekeeping sector to generate income and jobs for agricultural & non-farm communities.
  2. Increase cultivation output.
  3. Developing Integrated Honey production Developmental Centres (IBDCs)/CoEs, bee illness diagnosis labs, nectar testing labs, customized hiring facilities, foundation stock, Api-therapy clinics, bee producers, and other infrastructure facilities is one example.
  4. Beekeeping empowers women.
    Establish a public blockchain for tracing the origins of honey as well as other honey commodities, as well as using IT tools for beekeepers, such as online registration.
  5. In prospective locations, create and promote honey pathways.
  6. Promote agri-startups and agro – based on beekeeping and honeybees.
  7. Encourage businessmen and beekeepers to form trade relationships.
  8. Foster, develop, and disseminate cutting-edge beekeeping technology and skills development for the generation of honey and other elevated beehive commodities.
  9. Boost cooperation by creating an organizational mechanism for a coordinated effort, such as SHGs, FPOs, and other similar organisations.
  10. Enhance the financial, social, and environmental reasons for beekeeping diversification by generating more honey as well as other elevated beehive commodities for local and worldwide markets, such as paraffin, local honey, aristocratic jelly, resin, comb honeycomb, bee poison, and so on.
