Porsche to keep producing V8 engines post-2030, focusing on noise reduction

Porsche plans to keep the V8 engine in production beyond 2030 by making necessary adjustments to comply with tightening regulations. According to Porsche Panamera model line boss Tomas Freimuth, the V8 engine has been modified to meet the latest emission standards.

Freimuth revealed that the upgraded V8 engine, designed to be Euro 7 compliant, was initially set to debut in 2025 but has been delayed until 2030. Despite the stricter regulations, Porsche has ensured that the V8 engine will remain viable for the next decade without the need for a hybrid setup.

While the V8 engines will continue to produce the signature Porsche sound, the company will need to make them quieter to adhere to noise regulations. Porsche also aims to shift its focus towards electric vehicles, with EVs expected to account for more than 80% of annual sales by 2030. The brand has already introduced the Taycan and second-generation Macan EV, with the 718 Boxster and Cayman EVs scheduled for a 2025 release.
