Rafael Nadal, full name Rafael Nadal Parera, nickname Rafa Nadal, (born June 3, 1986, Manacor, Mallorca, Spain), Spanish tennis player who rose to prominence in the early twenty-first century as one of the sport’s top rivals, particularly on terra. He won the prestigious 13 French Open trophies in his professional life, and he holds the record for most Grand Slam men’s singles matches with 21.

Rafael Nadal Early Matches

His uncle Miguel Angel Nadal was a professional organisations football (soccer) player who participated in the 2002 World Cup. Rafael started playing tennis when he was four years old, with the help of some other uncle, Toni Nadal, who continued his instructor on the professional circuit. Nadal (who writes with his right hand) used to play left-handed tennis with a two-handed forehand side in his early years. His uncle, though, urged him to switch to a more traditional left-handed approach when he was 12 years old. Nadal kept his two-handed swing but turned to his famous one-handed forehand, which is attributed with catapulting him to the top of the tournament’s rankings.

Since 2010, Nadal has dominated the French Open, having won four wins in a row on two occasions, as well as three more US Open victories and then another Australian Open victory. At the 2022 Australian Open, he broke Djokovic and Federer’s milestone with most Major men’s singles championships, and he became one of just four men in history to accomplish the double season Grand Slam in singles. He was also the first and only man to win national championships in three different periods. Toni Nadal, Nadal’s uncle, tutored him from 2005 until 2017.
