The story behind the Rishi Panchami

Once upon a time, there was a brahmin living with his wife Sushila along with their widowed daughter. One night, he found his daughter covered with many ants making him and his wife worried. Unable to find the solution for his daughter, he called a sage to see if he can cure his daughter. Upon arrival, he asked the sage the reason behind his widowhood and the suffering caused to his daughter. The Rishi said she is suffering from her past life karma.

He added during her previous life she entered the mandir during her monthly cycle. After asking for a solution, rishi suggested observing a fast on Rishi Panchami for purifying her soul and body and relieve her from all the past sins and karma. As told his daughter started fasting on rishi Panchami with full devotion and this helped her to purify her soul along with eliminating sins
