According to the Panchang, on the Chaturthi tithi of the Krishna Paksha, the fast of Sankashti Chaturthi or Sakat Chauth is observed. This day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha, who is called the first worshipper, removes the troubles along with providing prosperity to the family.

According to the Hindu calendar, Sankashti Chaturthi observes the fast of Sakat Chauth every month on the Chaturthi date of the Krishna Paksha of Magh month, which is on Friday, January 21 this month.

Sankashti Chaturthi History

Once Mother Parvati went for a bath, she made Lord Ganesha with her scum and stand him at the door and said that no one should come inside. But then after some time, Lord Shiva reached there, then Ganesh Ji stopped him from going inside. Lord Shiva became enraged and with his trident he beheaded Ganesha. Seeing this condition of son Ganesha, mother Parvati became very sad and started insisting on Shiva Ji to revive her son. When Maa Parvati requested Shiva a lot, Lord Ganesha was given a second life by putting the head of an elephant. Since then his name was Gajmukh, Gajanan. From this day onwards, Lord Ganapati also got the distinction of being the first worshipper and he got a boon that whoever worships and fasts for the devotee or god, all their troubles will be removed and their wishes will be fulfilled.

Significance, and Importance

It is said that worshipping Lord Ganesha on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi removes negative effects. Not only this, peace remains in the house and all the problems of the house are removed. It is also considered very auspicious to see the moon on this day. Let us tell you that the Sankashti fast that starts with sunrise ends only after the moon sighting. 13 Sankashti fasts are observed throughout the year. Each Sankashti fast has a different story.

Puja Vidhi & Time

On Sankashti Chaturthi, get up before sunrise. Light a lamp in front of Lord Ganpati and decorate Lord Ganpati with red rose flowers. at the worship place, keep water, incense, banana, and modak as prasad in til laddus, jaggery, roli, moli, rice, flowers, and copper pots. Laddu should be prepared from kaale Til at home. Women who observe Nirjala fast throughout the daily worship at the time of moonrise with the invocation of Ganesha in the night. Laddus made of sesame is offered during the worship. Recite the following mantra by lighting an incense lamp in front of Lord Ganapati. Recite this mantra at least 27 times. This will definitely benefit in the job, business, etc. The mantra would be-

गजाननं भूतगणादिसेवितं कपित्थजम्बूफलचारु भक्षणम्ं।

उमासुतं शोकविनाशकारकं नमामि विघ्नेश्वरपादपङ्कजम्॥
