The obituary continued and said that Terry will forever remain in the hearts of everyone and he will always be remembered for the music he brilliantly created.

The cause of Terry Kirkman’s death was not disclosed.

Born in Kansas in 1939, Terry Kirkman was raised in Chino, California. He along with his friend Jules Gary Alexander started a band, “Inner Tubes”. The group gained popularity and eventually featured greats like Cass Elliott and David Crosby.

The band’s strength continued and eventually, it became a 13-member band that came to be known as ‘Men’. Partnering with Alexander, Russ Giguere, Ted Bluechel Jr., Brian Cole, and Bob Page, Terry Kirkman formed the folk-rock outfit the Association. The outfit was soon joined by Jim Yester who stepped in to take his place.

Terry Kirkman’s Outstanding Music Career

The group released their first album titled ‘And Then… Along Comes the Association,’ and featured hits like “Along Comes Mary” and “Cherish.”

Many hits continued to be created and the group released an incredible seven studio albums throughout the course of their career including Renaissance (1966), Insight Out (1967), Birthday (1968), and Stop Your Motor (1971).

The group also performed at the famed iconic Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and was the first group to play that weekend.

Terry penned lyrics of a number of songs for the Association group and includes greats like “Enter the Young,” “Cherish,” “Requiem for the Masses” and “Six Man Band.”

The Association won an unbelievable six Grammy nominations. Three of them were for “Cherish” — a contemporary rock and roll group performance, a performance by a vocal group, and a contemporary rock and roll recording.

Terry Kirkman had left the group in 1972 but returned when the band came together once again in 1979 before separating again in 1984.

Terry Kirkman adorns the Vocal Group Hall of Fame alongside other members of the Association in 2003. He was also involved which included the clinical director of the Musicians Assistance Program, now known as MusiCares.
