The World Biofuel Day is celebrated on 10th August every year. It is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as a substitute for fossil fuels. Also, highlight the efforts Government is making towards the biofuel sector. It is also observed to honor the efforts of Sir Rudolf Diesel.

His research and experiments in this sector have helped to grow the non-fossil sector significantly. Back in 1893, he ran an engine with the help of peanut oil. 

The theme for 2023 is yet to be announced. Last year, the theme was “Biofuels for Sustainability and Rural Income”. 

He was the first person to predict that vegetable oil will replace fossil fuels in the next years. They will also be used to fuel different mechanical engines. Since, 2015, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has been celebrating World Biofuel Day.
