After this, the United Nations started celebrating June 19 globally as World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. In this disease, which is passed on from generation to generation, spherical red blood cells get trapped in the small blood vessel of the body and obstruct the blood flow to the organs like the liver, spleen, kidney, brain, etc. The patient is always deficient in the blood due to the frequent breakdown of blood cells. Therefore this disease is also called sickle cell anemia.

Through blood transfusion and a balanced and nutritious diet, the patient can lead a normal life. According to a report, this disease is in second place in India. Although this disease has been known since time immemorial, much work has not been done on it. It is more common in African, Arabic, and Indian populations.
