10 People Burned Alive In Orgy Of Violence In West Bengal

Political violence has once again raised its ugly head in West Bengal. Hours after a TMC leader’s death, ten charred bodies, including two children, recovered from West Bengal’s Birbhum district. The incident has led to a war of words between the TMC government in West Bengal and the Center which has sought a detailed report of the incident from the State Government within 72 hours.

It is an oft-repeated story of attack and counterattacks which has been happening in West Bengal for some time. But unfortunately, the situation in West Bengal is erringly akin to Kerala, which also has seen a cycle of political killings.

Deputy Pradhan Killing Spark Of Chain Of Events

Bhadu Sheikh, a deputy pradhan in Bogtui village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, was killed in a horrific arson attack. Mr. Sheikh was a member of the TMC party. Sheikh’s killing set off a chain of events that culminated with the setting on fire by unknown assailants to eight houses in the Birbhum district. Police recovered eight charred bodies, which included women in children.

In a statement released to the press, the police have said that two FIRS’ have been filed, one related to the death of Deputy Pradhan Bhadu Sheikh and another over the attack on the houses. Eleven people have been arrested in the second case. Chief Minister Ms. Mamta Bannerjee has instituted an SIT to investigate the death of Deputy Pradhan Bhadu Sheikh.

Meanwhile, the BJP P’s from Bengal have met the Home Minister Amit Shah and demanded President’s rule in the State since there is a complete breakdown in law and order. The State Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee, has asked the Center not to indulge in politicizing the unfortunate incidents. Ms. Bannerjee accused the Center of passing sweeping, and uncalled-for comments on the law and order situation in the State based upon the regrettable incidents in Rampurhat on March 21.
