Delhi riot issue: Marshals ousted BJP MLA from Vidhan Sabha

Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal directed the marshals to oust BJP MLA Anil Vajpayee from the House. BJP MLAs came in the middle of the House to express their opposition. The Speaker then ordered the BJP MLA to stay out of the House for the entire day. Goyal adjourned the house amid chaos.

There was a heated debate between the ruling party and opposition BJP MLAs after Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan accused a political party of playing a role in the riots in North East Delhi last year on Thursday in the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Khan made this allegation while presenting a report on the communal riots that took place at the end of February last year. Khan is the chairman of the Minorities Welfare Committee of the Legislative Assembly. Goyal directed the removal of the political party’s name from the record and reinstated the proceedings of the House.

He also stopped Khan from speaking further on the committee’s report amidst strong opposition from BJP members. The riots erupted in North East Delhi on 24 February following clashes between supporters of the citizenship law and protesters last year that killed 53 people and caused extensive damage to schools, shrines and property.
