A deepfake obscene video of Rajasthan Congresswoman MLA Ritu Banavat has caught everyone’s attention, as a clip featuring a woman claimed to be Ritu is frequently circulating across social media platforms.
MLA Ritu Banavat herself disclosed her identity in the video by writing a letter to the Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani on Tuesday, complaining that a person had made an obscene video of the MLA.
Ritu Banawat said in the letter that the viral video is fake, and the face of the woman shown in the clip has been changed to MLA’s face using Deepfake technology by taking pictures of her from the MLA’s official Facebook account. MLA Ritu further added the video was created to defame her.
Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, taking immediate action on the matter, instructed the Bharatpur Inspector General of Police to find out and take strict action against the culprit, as informed by ZEEnews.
The speaker also asked the police to send the search report by January 23.
Ritu Banawat has also complained to the Bharatpur Police Station regarding this matter.
Adding more to the matter, Ritu said that if this has happened to her, the same can also happen to other women.
In the complaint given to Devnani, the MLA said that a wrong attempt was being made to tarnish the image of the MLA by uploading fake videos on social media, spreading rumors, and misleading the general public.
Recently, the incidence of crimes involving Deepfake technology has been on the rise, with a notable increase in the frequent leakage of such videos featuring celebrities, politicians, and other well-known personalities.
