Vat Savitri Vrat or Vat Purnima 2021 Date
This year Vat Savitri Vrat, Vat Purnima will be observed on 10 June. The Festival is mainly celebrated every year in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana. And in other parts and states of the country, this festival is celebrated every year after 15 Days Later than the North Indin States.
Vat Savitri Vrat Katha
According to legend, a king named Ashvapati was ruling in a country called Bhadra. He had a daughter named Savitri. Savitri was a very beautiful, humble and virtuous girl. When Savitri grew up, the king allowed her to choose her husband herself. Savitri chose a prince named Satyavan. Satyavan was the son of a blind king named Dhrimatsen of the Shalva kingdom. Defeated by the enemy, the king was living in the forest with his queen and son. Lord Narada knew that Satyavana’s life was only one year. So he advised Savitri not to marry Satyavan. But Savitri did not agree. She married Satyavana. She came to the forest and started serving her in-laws with her husband. One day, when Satyavan was going to cut wood in the forest, Savitri went with him. Suddenly, Satyavan felt on the Ground and died.
Yamaraj came there and started taking the life of Satyavan. Savitri started following Yama with her husband. Yama repeatedly asked Savitri to return. But she flatly refused and insisted on going with her husband. Yama was very pleased by her love of her Husband. Yama left her husband and asked her to ask three Boons. Savitri asked for her father-in-law’s eyes and kingdom back. Asking for the third boon, she wished Yama to have 100 sons. Yamaraja said tathastu in tone. Then they remembered the promise and had to give back the life of Satyavan. Savitri regained Satyavan’s life. Therefore, on the full moon day of the Jyeshtha month, women fast by worshiping the Vada tree and takes Vat Savitri vrat.
Puja Vidhi
Take a basket made up of bamboo wood. Took 7 types of grains in that. Cover that Basket with two pieces of Clothes. Take another basket of Bamboo wood and establish a statue or image of Savitri in that. On this Day, offer water to the Banyan tree, and then take a yarn thread and bend around the tree, then make 7 rounds of the tree. In Prashad, Use jaggery (Gud) and Chana. After all these rituals, women hear Vat Savitri or Vat Purnima Katha.
