The festival of Navratri is considered very important in Hinduism. The festival of Navratri comes four times a year, but out of these Magha and Ashadha Navratri are Gupta Navratri. There are many legends about Navratri. According to a legend, once a demon named Mahishasura attained unique powers by worshiping Lord Shiva. Due to this, all the gods prayed to Lord Shiva, according to the advice of God, all the gods combined their powers and incarnated Durga. Born with the power of many powers, Goddess Durga killed Mahishasura and saved everyone from suffering. After nine days, Goddess Durga freed the deities from their sufferings by killing a demon named Mahishasura. Therefore these nine days are celebrated as Navratri with reverence from the devotees.
This festival holds great importance in the Hindu religion. It is believed that worshiping Goddess Durga in Chaitra Navratri fulfills all wishes and brings happiness and prosperity to the house. According to folk beliefs, people wish that the mother would be pleased by fasting on the day of Navratri.
