According to bharatdiscovery, Radio broadcasting in India started in the 1920s. The first program was broadcast by the Radio Club of Mumbai in 1923. This was followed by a broadcasting service in 1927 with two privately owned transmitters in Mumbai and Kolkata. In 1930, the government took over these transmitters and started operating them under the name of ‘Indian Broadcasting Service’, which later in 1957 came to be known as “All India Radio”.
There are about 479 All India Radio stations in India in 23 languages. As an effective and reliable medium of knowledge, information, and entertainment, radio has also played an important role in the preservation of Indian culture and tradition.
