The festival Tulsi Vivah celebrates the sacred bond of Mata Tulsi and Lord Shaligram, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, with the marriage of both of them on this day.

Talking about the story behind this day, According to one of the legends, once upon a time there was a powerful demon named Jalandhar, who terrified the whole gods and goddesses with his terror. His wife Vrinda was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, and due to the effect of her worship, no one could defeat Jalandhar. His outrage had grown a lot and one day he attacked heaven. All the deities got upset and went to the Lord Vishnu and asked him for the solution.

Lord Visyhnu was aware that it’s impossible to defeat Demon Jalandhar without breaking Vrinda’s devotion, so he kept the form of Jalandhar and broke Vrinda’s ‘Prativada Dharma’, due to this Jalandhar’s all powers for useless, and he got killed in the war with gods. Later, when Vrinda got to know about Lord Vishnu’s deceit, in anger she cursed him, that the way he has deceited her and got her husband killed, the same way Lord Vishnu’s wife will also be abducted, and also cursed him of becoming a stone. THe same stone was called Shaligram. As per beliefs, due to the curse of Vrinda, later Shri Vishnu was born in Ayodhya as Ram and his wife Mata Sita got abducted by Ravana.
