The biggest cricket extravaganza on earth, the IPL 2024 is just around the corner. The IPL 2024 is expected to start on March 23, 2024, and is expected to close on May 29, 2024. However, these are only tentative dates and the full match schedules will be released by BCCI which organizes the IPL cricket event every year.
This year will constitute the 17th edition of the IPL and TATA is the sponsor of the event this year. This year 10 teams will be participating in the IPL event and two more teams have been added by BCCI. The players are selected in an auction in which IPL franchises will buy or release players. There will be 74 matches in the 2024 IPL.
IPL was started 17 years ago and was the brainchild of Lalit Modi. The IPL has blossomed into an event and has a turnover of millions of Rupees. Players from different nations play for IPL franchises and these include players from most cricketing nations except Pakistan for obvious reasons.
The opening match for the 2024 IPL season will be played between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. MS Dhoni will lead the Chennai Super Kings while Gujrat Titans will be led by Hardik Pandya.

The IPL 2024 auctions have just concluded and 72 players were sold for a whopping price of ₹230.45 crores. The list is topped by Mitchell Stark who was purchased by KKR for ₹24.75 Crores. He is closely followed by his teammate Pat Cummins who was purchased by SRH for ₹20.50 Crores. In all 332 players were on offer and their bidding went on for eight hours.
There was some reshuffle with franchisees releasing some players and buying some players. The stars of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra will be playing for CSK while Travis Head and Wanindu Hasaranga will feature in the SRH team. Dilshan Madushanka was bought by MI while Harshal Patel was sold to PBKS.
