Dermatomyositis is a rare inflammatory disorder characterized by muscle weakness and a distinctive skin rash. According to the Mayo Clinic, it can affect both adults and children. Adults typically develop dermatomyositis between the late 40s and early 60s, while it usually appears in children between the ages of five and 15. The condition tends to affect more females than males.

The symptoms of dermatomyositis can appear suddenly or gradually. The most common signs and symptoms are skin changes and muscle weakness. This includes a violet-colored or dusky red rash, usually on the face and eyelids, but also on the knuckles, elbows, knees, chest, and back. Additionally, progressive muscle weakness affects the muscles closest to the trunk, including the hips, thighs, shoulders, upper arms, and neck. The weakness affects both sides of the body and gradually worsens, as explained by the Clinic.

The sudden and tragic loss of Suhani Bhatnagar has left her family and the entire film industry mourning her untimely demise. Her parents’ revelation of the cause of her death has shed light on the rare and debilitating disease that is dermatomyositis, bringing awareness to the public about the symptoms and impact of this condition. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Suhani Bhatnagar during this difficult time.
