Hyundai Motor India aims to achieve RE100 benchmark by 2025 with 100% renewable energy target

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is on track to achieve the RE100 benchmark by 2025, with 64 per cent of its energy already coming from renewable sources. The company aims to reach 100% renewable energy ahead of other automakers in the nation, aligning with the global corporate renewable energy initiative by the Climate Group. Gopala Krishnan C.S., Chief Manufacturing Officer at HMIL, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and energy conservation, focusing on carbon neutrality and energy transition, among other initiatives.

HMIL’s Energy Management System prioritizes conserving energy and resources through low-carbon practices and emission reduction across its value chain. The company has implemented large-scale energy management practices, such as transitioning to LED lighting and adopting thermo-ceramic coating to reduce fuel consumption. It is constantly exploring ways to reduce carbon emissions in its manufacturing process, including the conversion to renewable energy sources and the use of Liquified Natural Gas.

To address water scarcity, HMIL has implemented a zero liquid discharge system and achieved 80% water neutrality through recycled RO water. The company has also received recognition for its sustainability efforts, winning awards for its water management and energy conservation initiatives. HMIL is dedicated to responsibly managing harmful substances in its products and operations, implementing initiatives to reduce hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

In line with its commitment to sustainability, HMIL recently announced a 10-year investment plan focusing on expanding its EV range and enhancing its car and SUV platforms. The company is dedicated to building a sustainable future for the next generation, emphasizing the importance of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. HMIL aims to lead positive action for a better tomorrow through its sustainable initiatives and energy conservation efforts.
