Minister: Trade Between Tripura and Bangladesh Increases by 94.04% in 5 Years

Trade between Tripura and Bangladesh has skyrocketed by over 94.04% in the past five years, with the volume of trade reaching Rs 758.09 crore in 2022-23. The Finance Minister of Tripura, Pranajit Singha Roy, announced this while presenting the state budget for 2024-25 in the assembly.

Singha Roy highlighted the increase in exports from Tripura to Bangladesh, which have reached Rs 121.37 crore in 2023-24. Additionally, he mentioned the implementation of major power projects funded by organizations like the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, along with new projects on the horizon.

Furthermore, the Finance Minister shared that thousands of farmers have benefited from various government schemes like the ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’. He also mentioned the success of the ‘Chief Minister’s Rubber Mission’ and various income-generating activities for tribal families.

In a significant development, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted clearance for the export of Agar oil to Dubai from Tripura. This showcases the growing opportunities in the state’s agriculture and forest sectors. Moreover, the formation of thousands of women Self Help Groups (SHGs) has been instrumental in empowering rural women in Tripura.

Looking ahead, the state government aims to further support the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) with a total amount of Rs 698.68 crore in the upcoming year. With various initiatives and projects in the pipeline, Tripura’s economy is poised for further growth and development in the years to come.
