Government’s ChipIN Centre to offer EDA tools to 85,000 students for chip design

The ChipIN Centre, an initiative by the Ministry of Electronics & IT, aims to provide EDA tools to 85,000 students for chip design. Currently engaged with 10,000 students from 120 institutions and 20 startups, the Centre is a key player in the semiconductor design community.

During the 4th Semicon India futureDESIGN Roadshow, Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar highlighted India’s potential as a semiconductor hub for chip and IP design. The ChipIN Centre offers various design flows and collaborates with industry leaders like Keysight Technologies, Synopsys, Cadence Design System, Siemens, and Ansys to support researchers and startups.

MeitY announced financial support for two semiconductor design startups/MSMEs at the event at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Kerala. WiSig Networks and GreenPMU Semi, incubated at IIT-Hyderabad, are working on innovative solutions for 5G technology and battery-free IoT devices, respectively. The Centre’s efforts aim to boost the semiconductor industry and foster technological innovation in the country.
