India’s Supply Chain Localization Initiatives Making Headlines Across Industries: Ashwini Vaishnaw

India is attracting attention for its localisation of supply chains, particularly in the electronics hardware industry, as per Union IT and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. During the launch of India’s fastest IP/MPLS router at Nivetti Systems in Bengaluru, the minister highlighted the country’s strong software and design capabilities.

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of manufacturing and innovation in India, stating that the country’s software and design capabilities will help it become a major player in the global product market. The indigenously-developed router with a capacity of 2.4 tbps is a testament to India’s progress in the tech industry.

The router’s development aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Digital India’, aiming to create an environment conducive to manufacturing and innovation. The government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware includes various telecom products, such as networking switches and routers.

Following the success of the PLI scheme for mobile phones, the Union Cabinet approved the PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT hardware on May 17, 2023. This initiative aims to further boost India’s manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its position in the global tech market, as per the minister.
