Musk clarifies the reason for canceling former CNN host Don Lemon’s show on X

New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) Elon Musk abruptly cancelled former CNN host Don Lemon’s show on X, citing Lemon’s desire to rehash the dying CNN business model on social media. Musk ended the partnership after Lemon pushed for guaranteed minimum payments, going beyond other creators on the platform.

In a statement, Musk stated, “Lemon is welcome to monetise on this platform, just like everyone else. What we aren’t going to do is guarantee minimum payments to him, as he was demanding, which would be going beyond everyone else.” Musk criticized Lemon for trying to replicate the failing CNN model on social media, which he believed would not succeed.

The Don Lemon Show was scheduled to air three times a week on X as part of exclusive video partnerships with celebrities. However, Musk’s platform decided not to enter into a commercial partnership with the show despite allowing Lemon to publish his content on X without censorship.

While X supports providing a platform for creators to scale their work and connect with new communities, it reserves the right to make business partnership decisions. Musk’s decision to cancel Lemon’s show comes after a recent interview that Musk was reportedly unhappy with, leading to the end of the collaboration between the two parties.
