The five-day Steering Committee Meeting of the 23-nation International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE) is currently underway in New Delhi from March 18 – 22. Participants are discussing the latest developments in hydrogen technology and identifying areas for further collaboration.
During the meeting, Principal Scientific Advisor Prof. Ajay Sood emphasized the need for working together to make hydrogen more economical and cleaner. He highlighted the importance of skill development and R&D in the sector, with various ministries in India making efforts for adoption of Green Hydrogen.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Sudeep Jain, stressed the challenging nature of climate change and the importance of collaboration with academia and research institutes for energy transition. He also emphasized the move towards green hydrogen over grey hydrogen.
IPHE Vice-Chairperson Noe Van Hulst praised India as an economic powerhouse and emphasized the need for skills, educational outreach, and Research & Innovation in shaping the future of Clean Hydrogen. Dean (R&D) of IIT Delhi, Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar, highlighted the institute’s two-decade-long involvement in R&D of hydrogen-run vehicles.
Established in 2003, the IPHE comprises 23 member countries and the European Commission, dedicated to advancing hydrogen and fuel cell technologies globally. The biannual Steering Committee Meetings help foster international collaboration and coordination, facilitating information exchange on policy and technical developments to identify key areas for collaboration and initiatives in member countries.
