Indumathi named best midfielder in AIFF’s IWL 2023-24 Roll of Honours

New Delhi, March 28 (IANS) Indumathi Kathiresan has once again proven her talent by being named the “Best Midfielder” in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2023-24. The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) announced the Roll of Honours’ List on Thursday, recognizing her exemplary performance for Odisha FC.

Indumathi, who previously played for Gokulam Kerala FC and was the best player last season, expressed her joy at winning the award. She credited her teammates and coaches for the achievement, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in her success as a player.

As the captain of Odisha FC this season, Indumathi took pride in her leadership role and mentoring junior players. She acknowledged the challenges faced during the season, particularly when key players sustained injuries, but highlighted the team’s resilience in overcoming obstacles with the help of capable substitutes.

Apart from Indumathi’s individual accolade, the IWL 2023-24 awards recognized various achievements within the league. Odisha FC emerged as the winners, receiving a cash prize of Rs 10,00,000, while Gokulam Kerala FC secured the runners-up position with a prize of Rs 5,00,000.

Other notable awards included Fazila Ikwaput of Gokulam Kerala FC as the Best Striker, Shreya Hooda of Odisha FC as the Best Goalkeeper, and Hemam Shilky Devi of Gokulam Kerala FC as the Best Defender. Sports Odisha was acknowledged for Best Match Organisation, and Odisha FC received recognition for the Best Media Operations.
