India is Moving Towards a Developed Nation with Digital Infrastructure: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the importance of digital infrastructure in achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047 during a meeting at Vels University in Chennai. She highlighted the success of digital transactions in overcoming initial skepticism and increasing connectivity across the country.

Introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the digital economy faced doubts on its feasibility and accessibility in rural areas with poor internet connectivity. However, Sitharaman mentioned the significant increase in digital transactions, reaching 43 crore per month, and emphasized that digital services are free for users, promoting widespread adoption.

The minister also praised the ‘Udan’ policy for enabling air travel for people from rural backgrounds and highlighted the development of the Defense Corridor in Tamil Nadu, which is expected to boost the economy of Chennai, Hosur, Salem, Tiruchi, and Coimbatore. Additionally, she mentioned the growth of a private sector Naval Shipyard in Kuttupulli near Chennai, offering employment opportunities for students in Naval courses.

In conclusion, Sitharaman encouraged students to become Viksit Bharat ambassadors and share the country’s growth story with their communities.
