Sri Lanka Surpass Pakistan in WTC Standings Following Bangladesh Series Sweep

Sri Lanka moves up to fourth place in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings after a convincing victory over Bangladesh in the second Test. Led by Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka secured a 2-0 series sweep, overtaking Pakistan in the updated rankings. India, Australia, and New Zealand currently hold the top three spots.

The final Test of the two-match series concluded on Wednesday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, with Sri Lanka emerging victorious in the opening session of the fifth day. Khaled Ahmed was the last Bangladesh batter to fall as Sri Lanka sealed a 192-run win.

With a 50 percent points percentage, Sri Lanka’s series win propelled them ahead of Pakistan in the WTC standings. Bangladesh, on the other hand, dropped to joint seventh place alongside South Africa. Their next series is against Pakistan later this year, featuring two Test matches.

Looking ahead, Sri Lanka still has two home series remaining in this cycle. They are set to face New Zealand later this year and Australia in early 2025. Their next challenge is a three-match series in England starting in August. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s upcoming series against Pakistan will take place later this year.

The series win against Bangladesh not only marked Sri Lanka’s ascent in the WTC rankings but also highlighted their strong performance under De Silva’s leadership. The team will aim to maintain their momentum in the upcoming series against England and continue their climb up the standings.
