World Bank and South Korea to strengthen collaboration on digital ID systems for developing countries

South Korea and the World Bank have agreed to enhance partnership on digital identification initiatives, sharing expertise and technologies with developing nations. During a meeting in Seoul, the Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corp. (KOMSCO) and the World Bank discussed ways to work together on digital ID systems for developing nations.

The World Bank aims to provide reliable digital authentication services to developing nations, with South Korea receiving requests from countries like the Philippines and Indonesia for cooperation on adopting South Korean systems. South Korea’s K-DID system, launched in 2020, uses blockchain technology to prevent personal information leakage and protect individual rights.

KOMSCO chief Lim Do-hyun expressed hope for more nations to adopt the South Korean system and pledged support for these countries. A World Bank official stated they will explore ways to share South Korea’s successful K-DID establishment cases with developing countries. The collaboration between South Korea and the World Bank aims to improve digital identification systems globally.
