Aakash Chopra believes IPL 2024 team Chennai Super Kings should be renamed as Chepauk Super Kings

New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra praised Chennai Super Kings for their dominant performance against Kolkata Knight Riders, labeling them as the ‘Kings of Chepauk’ for their impeccable home record in IPL 2024. Chennai’s bowlers restricted KKR to 137/9, setting up an easy chase for the home team.

After impressive spells by Ravindra Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande, and Mustafizur Rahman, KKR struggled to build a competitive total. Ruturaj Gaikwad then anchored the chase with a brilliant innings, guiding CSK to victory with ease. Chopra commended Chennai’s stronghold at home, stating, “No one has been able to beat them at home. Their fortress is extremely strong.”

Chopra also highlighted the absence of Deepak Chahar and Pathirana in the CSK lineup, expressing concern over the bowling attack. He particularly praised Jadeja for his standout performance and impactful presence on the field. The all-rounder’s contributions with both bat and ball were crucial to Chennai’s success against KKR.

Reflecting on the match, Chopra acknowledged Kolkata’s strong start but noted their inability to capitalize on it. Jadeja’s three-wicket haul and exceptional fielding display dismantled KKR’s batting lineup, leaving them struggling to recover. Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande also played vital roles in containing KKR’s batsmen.

Despite a dropped catch by MS Dhoni off Mustafizur’s bowling, KKR failed to post a challenging total, allowing CSK to chase down the target comfortably. Chopra praised the youngsters for their impactful contributions and highlighted the team effort that led to Chennai’s clinical victory at the Chepauk Stadium.

In conclusion, Chennai Super Kings’ dominant display against Kolkata Knight Riders further solidified their reputation as the ‘Kings of Chepauk’. With a strong bowling performance and composed batting, CSK continued their winning streak at home, showcasing their formidable strength in IPL 2024.
