IPL 2024: McGurk and Kuldeep Shine as Delhi Defeat Lucknow by Six Wickets

Lucknow, April 13 (IANS) – Debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk’s spectacular 55 and Kuldeep Yadav’s three wickets led Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in Match 26 of the Indian Premier League at Ekana Cricket Stadium. Lucknow set a target of 168, with Ayush Badoni scoring a half-century.

Chasing the target, Fraser-McGurk scored a quick 55 to guide Delhi Capitals to victory with a 77-run partnership with skipper Rishabh Pant. With back-to-back boundaries early in the chase, the Capitals set a solid foundation.

Fraser-McGurk’s debut innings showcased his talent with boundaries and maximums. Prithvi Shaw also contributed with a quick 32 before getting out to Ravi Bishnoi. The Capitals needed 105 from 78 balls at the end of seven overs to secure the win.

The young Fraser-McGurk’s innings, along with Pant’s 41, ensured a comfortable win for Delhi Capitals. Bishnoi and Naveen-ul-Haq picked up key wickets for Lucknow, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Capitals from reaching the target with eleven balls to spare.

Lucknow set a target of 168 runs, with openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul providing a solid start. However, Yadav’s three-wicket haul derailed Lucknow’s momentum, restricting them to 167/7 in 20 overs.

Despite a spirited fightback from Badoni and Arshad Khan, Lucknow fell short in defending the target. This loss marked the first time Lucknow Super Giants lost a match when defending a target of 160-plus.

In the end, Delhi Capitals emerged victorious with Fraser-McGurk’s impressive debut innings playing a crucial role in the six-wicket win. With this result, Delhi Capitals strengthened their position in the IPL points table, showcasing their prowess in the tournament.

Overall, the match between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants provided an exciting encounter, with standout performances from players on both sides. The thrilling contest kept fans on the edge of their seats till the last over, highlighting the competitive nature of the Indian Premier League.
