Study finds key nutritional information missing from online food delivery menus

New Study Finds Lack of Nutritional Information on Online Food Delivery Menus

New Delhi, April 14 (IANS) As more young people turn to apps for food purchases, a recent study has revealed a concerning trend: most advertised items on online food delivery menus lack essential nutritional information, making it challenging for consumers to make healthy choices.

Researchers from the University of Sydney examined menus on popular online food delivery platforms such as UberEats, Menulog, and Deliveroo. Shockingly, they discovered that less than 6 percent of menus featured complete nutritional labeling.

In a study published in the journal Public Health Nutrition, a total of 482 menus from these platforms were analyzed. Lead study author Sisi Jia highlighted the importance of menu labeling, stating, “Consumers provided with nutritional information tend to select meals with significantly lower energy content.”

Jia, from the Charles Perkins Centre and Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Sydney, emphasized the need for online platforms to implement proper menu labeling to assist consumers in making informed choices.

The surge in online food delivery services, particularly during the pandemic, raises concerns about the ease of access to low-nutritional quality food. The study underscores the importance of enforcing nutritional information on online food delivery menus to promote healthier eating habits among consumers.
