March saw a continued increase in AI and ML job roles being hired for in India: Report

New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) – Hiring for artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) job roles in India saw a 12 per cent increase in new job creation in March this year compared to the same month last year. The Naukri JobSpeak Index reported a significant surge in hiring for roles like machine learning engineer, with an 82 per cent jump in March 2024.

The report also highlighted a 20 per cent growth in hiring for full stack data scientist roles compared to the previous year. Dr. Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer of Naukri.com, expressed optimism about the positive trends in the upcoming quarters, citing increased demand for seasoned professionals and Indian AI/ML talent.

Furthermore, the report indicated a 22 per cent increase in hiring in the oil & gas sector in March 2024, with a particular demand for MEP engineers & electrical engineers. Cities like Ahmedabad and Hyderabad witnessed high hiring activity in this sector. Hiring in the pharma sector also saw a marginal 2 per cent growth compared to last year.

Senior professionals with over 16 years of experience experienced a notable uptick in hiring activity, with an 11 per cent increase in March this year. City-wise, Jodhpur led the hiring trends with a 13 per cent growth in new job creation, followed by Rajkot, Raipur, and Guwahati with 12 per cent, 7 per cent, and 6 per cent boosts in new job creation respectively.
