Andaman Islands shaken by 4.8-magnitude earthquake

New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) – A 4.8-magnitude earthquake shook the Andaman Islands region early Wednesday morning, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The earthquake, with a depth of 35 km, occurred at 4:31 a.m. on Wednesday.

The NCS shared the details of the earthquake on X, stating, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.8, Occurred on 17-04-2024, 04:31:30 IST, Lat: 12.04 & Long: 92.60, Depth: 35 Km, Location: Andaman Islands (sic).”

Prior to this, at 12:18 a.m., a 2.8-magnitude earthquake hit Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun. The sequence of earthquakes has raised concerns among residents and authorities in the affected regions.

The earthquakes serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of seismic activities and the importance of being prepared for such natural disasters. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols in the event of any future tremors.
